What Can I Expect When I Attend?

You may not know what to anticipate when participating in a support group meeting. The information below will help you know what to expect from the women's support group meeting sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This program provides a safe place where:

-Confidentiality and anonymity are respected.

-We are free to share our current situations.

-The focus is on solutions rather than on problems.

-We can meet others who are able to relate to our struggles and give support.

-We can learn from others’ successes in their healing.

-Together, we study the principles of the gospel to find peace and healing through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

You’re not alone.  You may feel as though no one else is going through a struggle like yours. However, many women in our community struggle personally or have loved ones who struggle. Other group participants will relate to your experience and will help you feel connected, understood, and accepted.  As you discuss and apply the gospel principles taught in the women’s support group, you can receive power through Jesus Christ and His Atonement and find peace, understanding, healing, and hope.

Relying on the Savior:  The gospel teaches us that we are all responsible and accountable for our own actions.  We are not responsible for our loved ones’ bad choices.  We are responsible only for how we respond to their choices.  As we do our part, the Lord will reach down and improve our situations and lives more than we ever could alone.

Finding Hope:  No matter your circumstances, “with God all things are possible”  (Matthew 19:26).  Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf has said:  “There may be some among you who feel darkness encroaching upon you.  You may feel burdened with worry, fear or doubt.  To you and all of us, I repeat a wonderful and certain truth:  God’s light is real.  It is available to all!  It gives life to all things (D&C 88:11-13).  It has the power to soften the sting of the deepest wound.  It can be a healing balm for the loneliness and sickness of our souls.  In the furrows of despair, it can plant the seeds of a brighter hope.  It can enlighten the deepest valleys of sorrow.  It can illuminate the path before us and lead us through the darkest night into the promise of a new dawn.”  (“The Hope of God’s Light,” Ensign, May 2013, p. 75).

Our focus in the program is on the power of the Atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ.  It is His ability, not our own, that will heal us from sorrow, pain, and suffering.   As you turn your mind and heart over to God through diligence and dedication to come unto Christ daily, you can heal and recover and find peace.
